Construction, planning and environmental projects increasingly run on data. Two skill sets sit at the centre of that shift: Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
BIM: one model, many uses
BIM brings design, construction and asset information into a shared digital model. Teams can spot clashes before they reach site, coordinate trades, and hand over richer information to owners. People who can model, read and manage BIM data are valuable across design and delivery.
GIS: understanding place
GIS links data to location. It helps planners, environmental consultants, foresters and councils map constraints, analyse sites and communicate findings clearly. Tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS are now standard in many workplaces.
Better together
BIM describes the asset; GIS describes its setting. Increasingly, projects combine the two — for example, placing a building model in the context of terrain, flood zones and infrastructure.
Soft skills still count
Technical skill gets you in the door. Communication, collaboration and problem-solving make you effective on a project team — which is why our programs build both.
